Production: Sprint One
Start of a new era is here! The production of our game is split into 3 sprints: one, two, and the polish phase. By the time this one ends, everything key to our game will be implemented. Then, we move on to things we've deemed less crucial (but still needed of course, a good loading screen is the first impression, right? Gotta make it swanky), and finally, we quit implementing features entirely and just focus on polishing the game.
The experience of production work is quite different, too. The team used to do individual prototypes and show them off to each other like macaroni art on a school day, but now, we all work on the same plan, clearly defined tasks, and can easily check (or spy) on what other people are doing through our Hack'n'Plan, where tasks are always moving from planned, to in-progress, to the playtest phase, and hours of work we do are getting logged.
Hours you can see the results of in devlogs! Here's some shinies for you:
Scout model! Using the same multiple UV channel workflow we showed you earlier, a single mesh can come in many flavours. So far, we've been calling them by their colours, but we're thinking of naming them. Something witty, definitely.
Next, our temporary environment texture has gone out with the trash. We've got a new one. After some pondering, we're going with something that will let those player and obstacle colours pop more, and will look cozy with our toon shader - stay tuned (toon-ed?) for that one! It's coming this sprint.
Next: pickup and obstacle models! That river may look empty in the sketch, but it'll be overflowing both with things to avoid, and things to try and grab. Fifty points to whoever can guess what that glowing fish pickup does!
As for our devs! Coding may not be eye candy, but you can try out what we've been working on inside our build this week. Cooked, baked, fresh out the oven.
