Sprint 2 so far
We're back.
Vacation is over! We're a week in to our second production sprint, with a detailed plan of what we're going to do in the coming days. Our devs have a lot of work to do still on things crucial to our game's Index Of Fun, while our artists are doing a lot of set dressing: UI work, 2D art, and our effects. Splashes, pop-ups, ripples, you never realise just how many there are, until you have to make them. Like good movie music, you only notice it if it's missing, if it sucks, or if it's really, really fantastic. Of course, we're aiming for the latter.
So this week, we have a nice, cozy end scene where your results will be displayed, like this:
Yes, we know the scouts are currently T-posing. We promise to swaddle them in blankets, give them hot cocoa to drink, and s'mores to burn above the fire. Hopefully by next week, the animations are in!
We also have a pause screen now, equally important, even if not quite as exciting.
And (and this is cool), we have a player selection area. But it's not a regular player selection area... while the game quietly loads in the background, you'll get to raft around! Giving you a chance to learn the controls in the kiddie pool before we throw you to the rapids! It's not quite done - there will be more of a tutorial feel to it after we add in all the gameplay instructions, and the area will be a bit more filled in with set dressing, but you can see the vision in this blockout here. It's like, the most ingenious loading screen ever. Agree with us.
As for those mentioned effects, here's an example of stuff we're working on!
